One of the fairly recent additions to the world of motocross is the Mobius X8 Knee Brace. Prior to releasing the X8, Mobius was already known for producing decent motocross knee braces. But with their latest model, they’ve now propelled to being known for offering a premium knee brace.

This brace offers a unique (patented) protection against impact, over-rotation, hyper-extension, and even fatigue in the knee.

Spoiler alert: they are awesome and worth buying… and I really wish I was wearing a pair when I tore my ACL. Oh well. 🙁

However: this product is not cheap and it’s not quite perfect… but what is?

In this review of the Mobius X8 Knee Brace we’ll take a look at a few of the important things you should know if you’re thinking about buying it.

Who is Mobius?

Mobius is a well-renowned company situated in Ketchum, Idaho with years of expertise in producing high-tech protective gear such as knee braces and sleeves.

The company has gained acclaim for its dedicated team of specialists including respected motocross athletes such as Christian Craig, Ryan Villopoto, and Kailub Russell.

What is the Mobius X8 Knee Brace?

Mobius X8 Knee Braces-White/Acid Yellow-L

The Mobius X8 Knee Brace is a comprehensive, all-in-one protective solution used to wrap around the knee and surrounding ligaments.

This knee brace is made of robust forged aluminum and encompasses Mobius’ patented CCRS system. The premise of this system is to neatly protect the knee and surrounding area without completely limiting the freedom of movement and/or general flexibility while riding.

With continuous developments, this knee brace has grown in stature and has been modified in accordance with consumer requests.

The braces are sold in pairs (a set of two) and include two extra sets of Patellar Kneepads. See details here.

Sizing Chart

The braces are sized XS – XXL.

In this section, we’ll look at what makes this a premium brace. Afteral, with a price tag of about $600, the X8 is not cheap. But that’s a good thing. Here are some of the key features that make this a quality knee brace.

  • Comprehensive EVA Foam Padding
  • Continuous Cable Routing System for Complete Reinforcement of Ligaments
  • Stainless Steel Cable (7 x 19 Strand Core)

The Mobius Knee Brace is available in two colors:

Positive Reviews

In this section, we’re going to look at the three main (in my opinion) positives. First, we’ll look at the lightweight design. Second, we’re going to look at the the materials that make this design so solid. Third, and most-importantly, we’ll consider the protection these braces provide.

  1. Lightweight
Coming in at just over 3 pounds (depending on the size), this is a robust, yet lightweight knee brace.

Many modern knee braces tend to be bulky and heavy, which can be annoying and uncomfortable while riding. However, Mobius has gone the extra mile to push for a lighter option that is compact and devoid of unnecessary bulk around the edges.
  2. Quality Materials
The design is impressive and includes a unique set of materials to ensure full impact protection, even in high speeds.

The cables are made of stainless steel, while the outer surface is composed of glass filled nylon shells. This provides respectable protection in a wide array of situations while maintaining a good amount of breath-ability.

Several other knee braces have been known to cause friction and sweatiness, however, the same doesn’t apply here. The material is indeed breathable and made for all weather conditions.
  3. Comprehensive Protection
What is the sole premise of using a knee brace? Protection.

Mobius claims to offer the best motocross knee brace on the market and it does pass several impact tests. The aluminum casing ensures the knee and its important ligaments are kept under full protection as soon as the cables tighten.

This protection illustrates the attention to detail gone into the knee brace. It’s sturdy, safe to use, and provides protection for all angles.

Negative Reviews

  • Takes Time to Settle In
While the Mobius X8 Knee Brace provides a plethora of advantages, it does come with a few minor hindrances, which should be kept in mind. One of those problems has to do with the rigidity of the material on day one.

It’s not going to be easy to move around in at first – especially as you get used to the CCRS system. The company states it takes a few runs to truly settle in but once it does, it will work like a charm and doesn’t cause further issues.
  • Ratcheting Dial and Cables May Need Oiling
General maintenance may be necessary over the long-term especially in dry conditions.

The continuous winding and tightening of the dials and cables may lead to a slow-building hitch in the functionality of these parts. This has to do with their built-in materials and how they age. Yes, the parts are designed to handle natural wear and tear but it’s best to keep the parts oiled at all times. This enables the parts to work smoothly without breaking down prematurely.

The oiling process shouldn’t take long and isn’t a major hindrance but it is something to keep note of over the long-term.

Where to Buy

To purchase the Mobius X8 Knee Brace, I recommend going to the company’s official Amazon page.

This page is fully verified and will guarantee the purchase of an authentic and reliable Mobius product. It’s worth noting that other sources may lead to potential inefficiencies and/or knock-offs, which is why it’s best to stick to their page over other vendors’.

This will ensure the purchase goes as smoothly as possible and that you will qualify for their warranty.

Warranty / Guarantee

In general, the Mobius X8 Knee Brace comes along with a confirmed 1-year warranty (from date of purchase) on all manufacturing defects.

To verify and maintain eligibility for this warranty, you must keep your original receipt provided post-purchase. This warranty can only be processed with the registered receipt and will only be offered to the original purchaser.

All servicing completed on the knee brace will be done in the purchasing country. If not, additional service charges are applied.

Does it Work?

Yes, it does. I wish I was wearing this brace when I tore my ACL. The Mobius X8 Knee Brace is an exceptional product and it delivers.

The brace is compact, made of world-class materials, and feels lightweight. With Mobius being a reputable brand with years of expertise in producing protective gear, it makes it a no-brainer if you’re actively searching for a knee brace… just make sure you only buy from their official listing.
